    Family Therapy

I believe that what happens to one member of a family happens to the entire family. A family operates like a seesaw: When one or more members are hurting or struggling, the whole family system falls out of balance.

I counsel families around a variety of mental health issues that can strain family relationships, including depression; anxiety; trauma; addiction; grief and loss; coping with illness; divorce; behavioral and conduct issues; poor boundaries; bullying; adjustment and life transitions; assisting a family member in crisis; medical concerns; and caregiver support.

Focusing on individual and group strengths, I partner with parents and families to help resolve their conflicts by exploring, identifying, and changing unhealthy patterns of communication. The family works together to better understand the group dynamics—how their individual roles affect each other and the family unit as a whole. The goal is to restore healthy relationships by providing family members with insights and tools to support each other.

Some positive family therapy outcomes are:

    • Identifying strategies to develop and maintain boundaries
    • Improving communication among family members
    • Fostering a sense of cohesion in the family
    • Promoting problem-solving through an understanding of family patterns and dynamics
    • Building empathy and compassion
    • Reducing family conflict
